What Drives a Bathroom Remodel Forward
A bathroom remodel is one of the most disruptive projects a homeowner can take on, and the most expensive part isn't the tile or the fixtures. It's the sequence. A contractor who shows up to install a vanity before the rough work is done, or sets tile before waterproofing is verified, creates problems that surface six months later as cracked grout lines, soft subfloor, or worse. Atomic Renovations handles the full scope, from demolition through final fixture installation, so the sequence is controlled start to finish. Request an estimate and find out what your bathroom actually needs before a single wall comes down.
Bathroom remodeling costs scale hard based on scope, existing conditions, and material selections. A basic refresh of an intact bathroom runs very differently from a full gut-out where you're pulling drywall, replacing the subfloor, and reconfiguring layout. The condition of what's behind the walls, especially in older homes, is the biggest unknown. Mold remediation, failed waterproofing, or outdated framing will add time and cost that no flat-rate estimate can absorb. What drives the number up: large format tile, custom shower enclosures, freestanding tubs, structural reconfiguration. What keeps it controlled: clear scope from day one, detailed quotes before work begins, and a project plan that doesn't change mid-job. Every job is different, contact Atomic Renovations for an accurate estimate.
Full Gut-Out vs. Surface Remodel: Know the Difference
The wrong call here is the one that costs you the most money later.
Surface Refresh
Paint, fixtures, vanity replacement, and hardware swaps. Right for structurally sound bathrooms with no water damage history and intact tile surfaces.
Partial Remodel
Shower retile, tub surround replacement, or vanity and flooring update. Opens selective areas without full demolition. Works when damage is isolated.
Full Gut-Out
Everything comes out. Drywall, subfloor, fixtures, tile, framing if needed. The only option when water damage, mold, or failing waterproofing is present behind the walls.
Tub-to-Shower Conversion
Remove the tub, frame a new shower, waterproof the pan, set tile, install enclosure. A popular reconfiguration that changes how the whole room functions.
Our Process
How Atomic Runs a Bathroom Remodel
Three stages, no handoffs, no subcontractor confusion. You talk to one contractor from estimate through the last grout joint.
- 01
Estimate and Scope
We walk the bathroom, assess the existing conditions, and build a detailed quote that covers every phase. No vague line items. You know what you're approving before demo starts.
- 02
Demo and Rough Work
We pull the existing material, inspect what's underneath, address any substrate or waterproofing issues, and frame or re-frame as the scope requires. Wood and metal framing and drywall are handled in-house.
- 03
Finish and Fixture Install
Tile, shower enclosures, vanity, mirrors, hardware. The tile and interior finish work is executed by the same crew that ran the rough phase. No trade handoff, no coordination gap at the end of the job.
Scope of Work
What Atomic Handles in a Bathroom Remodel
- 01
Demolition
Full gut or selective removal. We protect adjacent surfaces, contain the debris, and haul it off. Demo is the first thing we do and the first place a disorganized crew loses a project.
- 02
Waterproofing
Membrane application in the shower and around the tub surround before any tile goes down. Skipping this step is how you get a beautiful tile job that fails in 18 months.
- 03
Tile and Finishes
Layout planning, substrate prep, mortar bed, tile setting, grouting. Large format tile, mosaic, subway, natural stone. The tile installation is handled by the same crew throughout.
- 04
Fixture and Vanity Work
Placement and installation of vanities, mirrors, shower enclosures, and all hardware. Note: we don't do plumbing rough-in or electrical, and we'll coordinate with your licensed trades on timing.
What Separates a Bathroom Remodel That Holds
Waterproofing Done Before Tile, Not After
Tile is not waterproof. The membrane underneath it is. Any contractor who sets tile directly to cement board in a wet area without a proper waterproofing layer is handing you a future mold problem.
Subfloor Verified Before Anything Goes Down
Soft spots, delamination, and rot under the existing floor don't disappear when you cover them. We pull up what needs to come up and confirm the substrate is solid before the floor goes in.
Sequence Controlled by One Contractor
The reason multi-contractor bathroom projects fail is scheduling: plumber leaves before framing is done, tile crew shows up before waterproofing cures. One contractor controlling the sequence eliminates that gap entirely.
